Registered students in schools at the upper secondary and tertiary level in autumn 2011 In autumn 2011 there were 48,723 students enrolled. There were 29,389 registered students at the upper secondary level and 19,334 at the tertiary level. The number of registered students increased by 3.1% from the previous year. The decrease in the number of students from last year has mostly been reversed. The number of registered students at the upper secondary and post-secondary non-tertiary level increased by almost 5% and at the university and doctoral levels by almost 1%. The number of elementary school pupils in upper secondary schools decreased for the third year in a row.

More than one-half of staff in pre-primary schools with pedagogical education

Educational personnel who have completed some pedagogical education was more than one-half (54%) of all educational personnel in pre-primary schools in December 2012. At the same time 19,615 children attended pre-primary schools, more than ever before in Iceland.More
