The population in Iceland will increase from 317.6 thousand in 2010 to 436.5 thousand in 2060 according to the medium variant of the population projection of Statistics Iceland. The population will increase for most of the period, but mainly because of a high net migration. The net migration is projected to be negative until 2012. In all variants life expectancy is expected to increase for men from 79.7 to 85.0 in 2060, and 83.3 to 87.1 for women.
