Labour cost index in 1st quarter 2013

Total labour costs decreased between the quarters in the economic activity of Manufacturing by 0.5% and Construction by 0.4%. During the same period the total labour costs increased by 0.8% in the economic activity of Transport, storage and communication and by 2.3% in Wholesale and retail trade; repair.

Total labour costs excluding bonuses increased between quarters by 4.4% in Wholesale and retail trade; repair, by 4.3% in Transport, storage and communication, by 2.6% in Manufacturing and by 2.5% in Construction.

From the previous year total labour costs rose in all economic activities. The increase ranged from 4.0% in Construction to 8.3% in Transport, storage and communication. From the same quarter of previous year, total labour costs excluding bonuses rose from 4.4% in Construction and in Manufacturing to 6.5% in Wholesale and retail trade; repair.

 

The labour cost index measures, on a quarterly basis, the development of labour costs per hour worked. The index is not adjusted to changes in working hours or labour structure.
