Fish catches in February 2006
Total catch¹ of Icelandic vessels in February 2006 was 214,300 tonnes compared to 301,000 tonnes in February 2005. The volume decreased between February 2006 and 2005 by 10%, measured at constant fish prices. The period January to February 2006, Icelandic vessels landed 256 thousand tonnes compared to 538 thousand tonnes in 2005. At constant prices the volume decreased by 18%. Demersal species accounted for 49 thousand tonnes, thereof cod 26 thousand tonnes, haddock was 9 thousand tonnes and saithe was 5 thousand tonnes. The large decrease in the total landings between years is due to poor capelin season.
