Wage index 2005-2006

Statistics Iceland has released a new issue of the Statistical Series within the category of Wages, income, and labour market. The issue, Wage Index 2005-2006, presents the results of a wage index in the private sector by occupational group and economic activity from the first quarter of 2005 to the fourth quarter of 2006.

Wages in the private sector increased by 10.3% on average between the years 2005 and 2006 according to the new wage index. Wage increases ranged from 8.8% for Craft workers to 11.5% for Professionals. In the economic activity of Transport, storage and communication (I) the wages rose by 12.3% while the increase of wages was 9.1% in the economic activity of Wholesale and retail trade; repair (G). Wages in the public sector increased by 10.4% during the same period.
