Producer price index in October 2009
The producer price index (PPI) in October 2009 was 187.0 points (4. quarter 2005 = 100), 0.3% higher than in the previous month. The PPI for fish products was 229.2 points which is 4.1% higher than in September 2009 (effect on the index 1.4%) and the PPI for power intensive industry products was 205.1 points, 4.5% lower (-1.5%). The PPI for food products was 0.9% lower (-0.1%) than in September and the PPI for other manufactured products rose by 3.1% (0.6%).
The PPI for domestically sold products was 0.3% higher (0.1%) than in the previous month while the index for exported products increased by 0.2% (0.2%).
Compared to October 2008 the PPI has not changed. The PPI for fish products has increased by 1.4% and the PPI for power intensive industry products has decreased by 17.7%. In the same period the PPI for food products rose by 8.6%.

In evaluating the price changes accounted for here, it may be taken into consideration that the trade-weighted average price of foreign exchange in October 2009 was 0.8% higher than in the preceding month whereas it was 17.2% higher than in October 2008.
