Producer prices increase by 2.7% from previous month

The producer price index (PPI) in March 2012 was 223.7 points (4. quarter 2005 = 100), 2.7% higher than in the previous month. The PPI for fish products was 274.6 points which is 2.2% higher than in February 2012 (effect on the index 0.7%) and the PPI for power intensive industry products was 249.9 points, 4.5% higher (1.7%). The PPI for food products decreased by 0.2% and the PPI for other manufactured products rose by 2.1% (0.3%).

The PPI for domestically sold products was 0.7% (0.1%) higher than in the previous month while the index for exported products rose by 3.3% (2.6%).

Compared to March 2011 the PPI has increased by 6.4%. The PPI for fish products rose by 12.9% and the PPI for power intensive industry products decreased by 3.9%. In the same period the PPI for food products rose by 5.0%.

In evaluating the price changes accounted for here, it may be taken into consideration that the trade-weighted average price of foreign exchange in March 2012 was 2.1% higher than in the preceding month and 5.3% higher than in March 2011.
