Producer prices increase by 0.5% from previous month

The producer price index (PPI) in April 2012 was 224.8 points (4. quarter 2005 = 100), 0.5% higher than in the previous month. The PPI for fish products was 278.0 points which is 1.2% higher than in March 2012 (effect on the index 0.4%) and the PPI for power intensive industry products was unchanged at 249.9 points. The PPI for food products increased by 0.6% (0.1%) and the PPI for other manufactured products declined by 0.2%.

The PPI for domestically sold products was 0.5% (0.1%) higher than in the previous month and the index for exported products also rose by 0.5% (0.4%).

Compared to April 2011 the PPI has increased by 5.3%. The PPI for fish products rose by 12.4% and the PPI for power intensive industry products decreased by 3.4%. In the same period the PPI for food products rose by 5.4%.

In evaluating the price changes accounted for here, it may be taken into consideration that the trade-weighted average price of foreign exchange in April 2012 was 0.4% higher than in the preceding month and 5.6% higher than in April 2011.
