Labour cost index in 1st quarter 2012
Total labour costs remained unchanged between the quarters in the economic activity of Construction. During the same period the total labour costs decreased by 0.9% in the economic activity of Manufacturing, by 2.3% in Wholesale and retail trade; repair and by 3.3% in Transport, storage and communication.
Total labour costs excluding bonuses increased between quarters by 4.1% in Transport, storage and communication, by 3.9% in Manufacturing, by 2.6% in Wholesale and retail trade; repair and by 2.3% in Construction.
From the previous year total labour costs rose in all economic activities. The increase ranged from 6.5% in Wholesale and retail trade; repair to 9.8% in Manufacturing. From the same quarter of previous year, total labour costs excluding bonuses rose from 6.7% in Wholesale and retail trade; repair to 9.9% in Manufacturing.
The labour cost index measures, on a quarterly basis, the development of labour costs per hour worked. The index is not adjusted to changes in working hours or labour structure.
