In the 4th quarter of 2006, the financial balance of general government (i.e. the central government, the social security funds and the local governments) amounted to 20 billion krónur in surplus or 1.8 per cent of GDP. This can be compared with a surplus of 1.8 per cent of GDP in the 4th quarter of 2005. In 2006, the general government financial balance was positive by 60.7 billion krónur or by 5.3 per cent of GDP. In 2005, the general government financial balance was 53.6 billion krónur or 5.2 per cent of GDP.
