In the period 1998 to 2005 the number of employed foreign nationals increased considerably in Iceland. In the year 2005 the average number of employed foreign nationals was 9010 and their number had nearly tripled since 1998. In 1998 employed foreign nationals were 2.4% of employed persons in Iceland but had increased to 5.5% in 2005.
