In 2004 552 divorces occurred in Iceland. Furthermore, 670 couples reported dissolution of a consensual union to the National registry. Divorce rate was 1.8 per 1,000 population and the rate of dissolution of consensual unions 2,3. In Iceland, the divorce rate is considerably lower than in the other Nordic countries, the highest rate was reported for Denmark (2.8). Little changes have occurred in divorce rates in Iceland since the early 1980s.
