Population development 2010

The population of Iceland was 318,452 1 January 2011, compared with 317,630 1 January 2010. Although increasing, the population growth of 0.3% was nevertheless historically low. This is due to negative net migration in 2010, just barely outweighed by the natural population growth (births less deaths). The population has nevertheless grown in the past five years by an annual average growth rate of 1.2%. [Corrected version 31 May 2011] |
