At present Statistics Iceland is building up a database on the Icelandic environment. The principal categories are atmosphere, freshwater supply and quality, wastes, land use, the ocean and marine pollution, forests, biology and noise. In certain fields, data has been gathered for a number of years, even decades, while in other cases the measurements required to prepare the statistics are scant or still not available.
