Services:
Consumer price index
The CPI is calculated monthly based on prices collected for at least one week time in the middle of a month. Its calculation is carried out in accordance with the Consumer price index Act No. 12/1995 with changes in Act No. 27/2007. The CPI is a chain index with yearly links in March each year.
Consumer price index less housing cost
Used for price comparison covering longer time periods. The calculation of housing in the CPI differs considerable over time which makes this index suitable for such comparisons.
Consumer price index for indexation of financial obligations
The CPI is used for indexation purposes and applied for indexation in the second month following the calculation. For example the CPI calculated in May is used for indexation in July in accordance with Act No. 38/2001 and with changes in Act No. 51/2007.
Index used for indexation of financial obligations issued before 1. April 1995 indexed by the Credit terms index
Used for indexation of financial obligations issued before 1. April 1995 that were indexed by Credit terms index which was abolished in March 1995. Extrapolated in accordance with the change in the CPI and applied for indexation in the secont month following the calculation.
Harmonised index of consumer prices, HICP
HICP index is calculated by all countries in the EEA area. It differs mainly from the national CPI in coverage as owner occupied housing is excluded.
Purchasing power parity
PPP’s are currency conversion rates that convert different currencies to a common currency and equalise their purchasing power. Statistics Iceland participates with other European countries in the PPP program. The comparison is very comprehensive and cover a large number of commodities and services, representing the total GDP. The main use is for volume comparison of GDP and its components.
Building cost index for residential housing
The index is calculated once a month and measures changes in the building costs of a specified block of flats.
Building cost index for industrial housing
The index is calculated once a month and measures changes in the building costs of a specified non-residential building.
Wage index
The Wage index measures monthly changes in wages and salaries of employees and is based on information collected both from public and private sector employers.
Producer price index
The PPI is compiled monthly and measures changes in prices received by producers for their products. Aggregate indices are compiled using weights from the annual PRODCOM-survey that is carried out by Statistics Iceland and submitted data on production quantities. Subindex weights for marine products are based on export statistics collected by Statistics Iceland's External trade division. Price measurements are based on transaction data collected from domestic producers. The index serves as a short term indicator of economic trends.
Household budget surveys
Statistics Iceland conducts as of year 2000 a continuous household budget survey. The sample covers 1200 household from across the country each year and the survey cycle is three years. Since year 2004 results from the household budget survey are published annually. The survey results are used for rebasing the CPI in March each year.
