Quarterly Total Wage Index increased by 8.5% between the fourth quarter 2022 and the same quarter in 2023. The yearly average increased by 8.5% between the years 2022 and 2023. Figures have been updated.
In total, 213,000 individuals were employed in the Icelandic labour market in January 2024, according to register-based data. The number of employed increased by around 6,300 between years, which corresponds to an increase of 3.1%. The number of employed females in January was around 100,200 and the number of males was around 112,900. Figures have been updated.
The value of exported goods from Iceland amounted to 79.7 billion ISK fob in February 2024 and the value of imported goods 100.4 billion ISK cif (95.2 billion ISK fob) according to preliminary figures. Thus, there was a trade deficit, calculated on fob/cif value, of 20.7 billion ISK as compared with a trade deficit of 23.7 billion ISK in February 2023 at current rates of exchange.
The total sum of taxable wages decreased by 6.7% in January 2024 from the previous month. The annual changes vary between economic activities. Note that data have not been adjusted for inflation. Figures have been updated.
