According to preliminary annual figures for 2021, GDP amounted to 3,251 billion ISK, a 4.4% increase in volume from the previous year. Considering a 1.7% population growth in 2022, GDP per capita increased by 2.7% in 2021.
Gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated to have amounted to 913.3 billion ISK in the second quarter of 2022 and to have increased by 6.1% in volume compared with the same period of the previous year.
In July 2022, there were 1,550,600 overnight stays in Iceland which exceeds all previous years. Foreign overnight stays were 82% thereof, or 1,271,400, which is more than double from the previous year (588,200). Domestic overnight stays were 279,100 which is a decrease by half from the previous year.
The value of exported goods from Iceland amounted to 75.6 billion ISK fob in July 2022 (75.8 according to preliminary figures at the beginning of the month) and the value of imported goods was 107.4 (106.8) billion ISK cif according to revised preliminary figures. Thus, there was a trade deficit of 31.8 billion ISK (31.0). Deviations from preliminary figures are due to corrections and overestimates in fuel purchases. Figures have been updated.
