Population in the 1st quarter 2014
The population of Iceland at the end of the 1st quarter 2014 was 326,340, 163,660 males and 162,680 females. The population increased by 720 from the previous quarter. Foreign citizens were 23,060 by the end of the 1st quarter 2014.
A total of 1,060 children were born in the 1st quarter and 540 persons died. Net migration was 190 persons. Net migration of persons with Icelandic citizenship was -200, and 380 for foreign citizens. More males than females emigrated.
Norway was the most popular destination for Icelandic citizens with 240 persons emigrating in the quarter. Of the 700 Icelandic citizens who emigrated, 490 went to Denmark, Norway or Sweden. The largest group of the 500 foreign citizens who emigrated went to Poland (120).
Immigrants of Icelandic citizenship came mostly from Denmark, Norway or Sweden, 380 out of 500, while Poland was the country of origin for most of the foreign immigrants, 260 out of 890. Czech Republic came second with 50 immigrants.
