The total catch of the Icelandic fishing fleet for the year 2024 was just over 994 thousand tonnes, which is 28% less than in 2023. This reduction is mainly due to capelin not being caught. The demersal fish catch was 420 thousand tonnes. Pelagic catch decreased by 42% and amounted to around 549 thousand tonnes.
The value of catch in 2024 was approximately 171 billion ISK, a decrease of 13% compared with the previous year. The value of demersal fish catch increased by 2% from previous year and was 129 billion ISK. The value of pelagic catch decreased by 50% and was just over 29 billion ISK for the year 2024.
