The population of Iceland at the end of the first quarter of 2026 was 395,050. Thereof 202,560 males, 192,260 females and non-binary/other were 230. The population increased by 520 from the previous quarter. Inhabitants of the Capital region were 252,580 and 142,470 lived in others regions.
A total of 1,110 children were born in the first quarter and 640 persons died. Net migration was 240 persons. Net migration of persons with Icelandic citizenship was -210 and 450 for foreign citizens. More males than females emigrated. Foreign citizens were 70,650, or 17.9% of the total population in Iceland by the end of the first quarter of 2026.
