Hrafnhildur Arnkelsdóttir has been appointed Director General of Statistics Iceland. She will take over from Elsa Björk Knútsdóttir who has served as acting Director General since Ólafur Hjálmarsson left office at his own request at the end of August after holding the position for 14 years.
From 2014 Arnkelsdóttir has been Director of the Social Statistics Division at Statistics Iceland. Previously she was Director of the Services and Development Division and before that Head of the Wages and Remuneration Department. Furthermore, Arnkelsdóttir was Director of the Icelandic Wage Research Committee from 1997 to 2004.
Hrafnhildur holds a Ph.Lic. degree in biostatistics from Gothenburg University and an undergraduate degree in statistics and systems theory from Lund University. She has also completed a management course at IMG Deloitte and public administration studies at the University of Iceland.
