NEWS RELEASE PRICES 16 MAY 2008

The Icelandic consumer price index (CPI) rose by 11.8% from April 2007 to April 2008. At the same time the CPI less housing cost rose by 10.6%. The inflation has increased, especially this year, mainly owing to depreciation of the ISK.

In a new issue of the Statistical Series the development of the consumer price index in the period from April 2007 to April 2008 is described and the rebasing of the index in March is briefed. It also includes a description of the methodology for the so-called core index 3, which is CPI less agricultural products, vegetables, fruits, petrol, public services and leaving out the effects of changes in real interest rate in the model for imputed rent.
