The Consumer Price Index (CPI) based on prices in August 2026, is 694.6 points (May 1988=100), 0.20% higher than in the previous month. The CPI less housing cost is 553.8 points, 0.02% lower than in July 2026.
Clothing sales are winding down, causing an increase in clothing by 4.1% (effect on index 0.10%). Cost of owner occupied housing (imputed rent) increased by 0.9% (0.18%) and prices of international flights decreased by 9.6% (-0.34%).
University fees increased by 15.1% (effect on index 0.07%), but this increase is largely due to the registration fee at public universities rising from ISK 75,000 to ISK 100,000. That fee was last increased 12 years ago.
The CPI is 5.6% higher in August 2026 than in August 2025 and the CPI less housing cost is 5.2% higher than one year ago.
The CPI compiled in the middle of August 2026, 694.6 points, is applicable for indexation purposes in October 2026.
