NEWS RELEASE PRICES 21 DECEMBER 2023

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) based on prices in December 2023, is 608.3 points (May 1988=100), 0.41% higher than in the previous month. The CPI less housing cost is 497.9 points, 0.26% higher than in November 2023.

Cost of owner occupied housing (imputed rent) increased by 0.8% (effect on the index 0.17%).

The CPI is 7.7% higher in December 2023 than in December 2022 and the CPI less housing cost is 6.7% higher than one year ago.

The average CPI in the year 2023 was 592.8 points, 8.8% higher than the average in 2022. This increase corresponds to a 8.3% rise in 2022 and 4,4% in 2021.

The average CPI less housing cost was 489.3 points in 2023, 7.8% higher than in 2022. This change can be compared with 6.1% in the year 2022 and 3.8% in 2021.

The CPI compiled in the middle of December 2023, 608.3 points, is applicable for indexation purposes in February 2024.

As was reported in October, the base weights in the consumer price index will be updated in January 2024. The rebasing of the index does not in itself have any effect on the CPI results.
