NEWS RELEASE PRICES 26 FEBRUARY 2026

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) based on prices in February 2026, is 674.6 points (May 1988=100), 0.94% higher than in the previous month. The CPI less housing cost is 538.8 points, 1.09% higher than in January 2026.

The winter sales are winding down and prices of clothing and footwear increased by 5.1% (effect on the index 0.17%) and prices of furnishings, household equipment etc. increased by 5.4% (0.21%). Price of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 0.9% (0.14%), prices for water supply and miscellaneous services relating to the dwelling increased by 4.3% (0.07%) and prices of international airfares increased by 6.8% (0.15%). Prices of diesel decreased by 5.6% (-0.05%) and prices of petrol decreased by 6.0% (-0.11%).

During validation of the data, an incorrect recording of fuel prices in January was discovered at one retailer. The decrease in diesel and petrol in February is largely due to the update of this entry. The decrease in prices of diesel in January should have been 28.1% (-0.30%) and the decrease of petrol should have been 31.5% (-0.78%). The published CPI in January is not revised.

The CPI is 5.2% higher in February 2026 than in February 2025 and the CPI less housing cost is 4.5% higher than one year ago.

The CPI compiled in the middle of February 2026, 674.6 points, is applicable for indexation purposes in April 2026.
