NEWS RELEASE TOURISM 19 JUNE 2025

Revenue from foreign tourists during the first quarter of 2025 was about 108.5 billion ISK compared with the same period last year when it was 103,8 billion ISK. Revenue from foreign tourists has increased by 2% in the last 12 months when compared with the same period the year before, from 612.9 billion ISK to 623.80 billion ISK.

Employment in the tourism industry in Iceland was 29,741 in April 2025, a decrease of 1% compared with April 2024. In the 12-month period from May 2024 to April 2025, an average of 31,407 individuals worked in the tourism industry compared with 31,721 in the previous 12-month period.

Overnight stays in hotels in April 2025 were 369,411 compared with 331,880 in April 2024. Further information about overnight stays can be found on Statistics Iceland‘s website under the Tourism category.

In May, there were 226,257 departures of passengers from Keflavik airport compared with 210,872 in May 2024. Departures of passengers with foreign citizenship were 154,689 compared with 158,312 a year earlier.

This release includes updated statistics on revenue from foreign tourists, overnight stays and register based employment. Also updated are statistics on rental cars from the Icelandic Transport Authority, traffic statistics from the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration, passengers count by nationality from the Icelandic Tourist Board and passengers’ statistics through Keflavik Airport along with traffic statistics published by ISAVIA.
