Approximately 385 thousand vehicles were registered in Iceland in August 2024. Of this number, 268 thousand were owned by individuals or households, or 69.5% of the total.
Vehicles registered as electric cars or plug-in hybrid vehicles totalled 51,470, of which 36,430 were owned by households, or 70.7%. Vehicles with these energy sources were virtually unknown before 2016, but their numbers have increased by 20-40% annually since 2019.
