In the year 2008 wages and salaries accounted for 81.3% of the total labour cost in Iceland. Non-wage labour cost was therefore 18.7%. The largest component in non-wage labour cost was employers' mandatory contribution to pension and private pension savings, 9.8% of total labour cost. The composition of total labour cost in Iceland has changed since the year 2000. The proportion of non-wage of total labour cost has grown more than the proportion of wages and salaries.
